Before the famous 1910 fire devastated the St. Joe Valley, a community of  railroad construction workers, settlers, and business people opened a small school at the new Mountain Park Hotel.
After the fire and completion of the railroad, the population grew rapidly to a peak of more than 1,100 in the early 20th century. By the turn of the century the population dwindled to 80

Today, Avery School continues to lead by combining the best of  traditional educational practices with recent technological advances.  Just as the railroads of the past shaped the character of this community, today, integrated technologies shape the future for generations to come.
